What You Need to Know About Your End of The Year Benefits

No one likes to throw away money, and with the end of the year quickly approaching all your unused dental benefits will be wasted. If your dental benefits are not used up, you will lose them because they will not rollover to the next year. One major thing you should do before your end of the year benefits expire is to check if your dental insurance is based on a calendar cycle, if so your benefits will reset after December 31, 2016.

Here’s three (3) things we recommend before your dental benefits expire this year:

1. Preventative Care Appointments

Most insurance companies will cover you for a certain number of dental exams and preventative care appointments. Your preventative care appointment is key to discovering and preventing dental problems from worsening. For example, treating a cavity is easier, cheaper, and less painful than receiving a root canal.

2. Yearly Maximum

The yearly maximum is what your insurance company will cover for that year. Make sure to take advantage of this, especially if you have not approached your maximum. Any amount you do not use will not roll over to the next year and is the equivalent of throwing away you unused benefits. For example, if you use $650 of your $1000 insurance plan, the $350 will disappear once this year is over.

3. Deductibles

Another part of your dental insurance that does not rollover, but resets at the year’s end is your deductible. A deductible is how much you must pay out of your pocket before the insurance steps in to help. Once a deductible is paid for the year, you won’t have to worry about it until it rests in the beginning of the year.
